German electronics exports up significantly in July

Exports of German electronics rose significantly in July, with goods worth a total of €23.5 billion ($26.8 billion) delivered abroad, which represents an increase of 11.9% year-on-year, an industry group reported.

This means the strong growth seen in the first six months of the year has been exceeded slightly, Andreas Gontermann, chief economist at the German Electro and Digital Industry Association (ZVEI), said in a statement.

From January to the end of July 2026, German electronics exports totalled €162.9 billion, up 9.7% on the same period last year.

Trade with EU countries is the main driver for the positive development, accounting for nearly 90% of export growth, according to the industry group.

Goods worth €90.1 billion - 17% more than a year ago - were shipped to EU countries in the first seven months, it said.

Business outside the EU has also been improving, with German firms exporting electronics worth €2.7 billion to the United States in July, logging an increase of 23.3% year-on-year despite new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Exports to China, meanwhile, continued to decline, dropping by 10.8% to €1.8 billion.

"In contrast to deliveries to the US, which are recovering thanks to the AI boom and the one-off tariff effects that have now largely been factored out of the statistics, business with China continues to be sluggish," Gontermann said.
