Record price rise at German pumps since new price hike rules began

13.04.2026, 14:18

The decline from previous increases in fuel prices appears to be over for now, with petrol prices once again on the rise as oil prices move up on world markets, data released on Monday from the German automobile association ADAC showed.

At midday on Monday, average fuel prices nationwide were above Sunday's prices following a midday jump. The increases between 11:45 am (0945 GMT) and 12:15 pm were also the biggest since the German government introduced a rule allowing petrol stations to only raise prices once a day at midday.

Diesel rose by 12.5 cents (14.6 US cents) per litre and by 11.4 cents for Super E10.

Before the jump, E10 was still marginally cheaper than at the same time the previous day. Afterwards, the fuel was at €2.181 per litre, 1.7 cents above the previous day's level. Diesel was also cheaper than on Sunday by fractions of a cent before the jump but afterwards was 2.1 cents more expensive at €2.385.

Prices are up after weekend negotiations between the United States and Iran failed. Before that, fuel prices had fallen for several days, in some cases sharply, after the oil price had temporarily dropped.

Sunday's nationwide daily average, Super E10 cost €2.100, 9.1 cents less than a week earlier. Diesel fell by 14.7 cents within a week to €2.293.
