German electric vehicle sales surge 58.5% year-on-year in November

German registrations of new electric vehicles surged 58.5% year-on-year in November, official figures showed on Wednesday.
The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) said more than 55,740 battery-electric cars were registered in the month, accounting for over 22% of all registrations.
The sharp increase is likely due to a collapse in electric vehicle sales last year when a government subsidy was cancelled at short notice due to budgetary concerns.
While US electric car manufacturer Tesla continues to lose ground in Germany, sales by Chinese manufacturer BYD are on the rise.
More than 4,000 BYD electric vehicles were newly registered in November, an increase of more than 830% compared to the previous year.
Elon Musk's Tesla, on the other hand, sold only around 1,800 units in November, a decline of more than a fifth compared to the same period last year.
A total of 250,670 new cars were registered in Germany in the month, 2.5% more than in November 2024.
