Bayern winger Gnabry to miss Bundesliga match against Freiburg

Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry will miss the Bundesliga home match against Freiburg on Saturday.

"Serge returned from international duty and still felt a twinge. We'll see, he probably won't be back for Freiburg, we're hoping for the game after that," coach Vincent Kompany said in a news conference on Friday.

Manuel Neuer is doubtful for the match because he has a cold and didn't train, Kompany added.

Before the international break, Bayern suffered their first setback of the season with a 2-2 draw at Union Berlin.

"Union is always a special fixture away from home. Now we're playing at home, you can't compare the games. Freiburg play very good football and we're looking forward to the game," Kompany said.

"Freiburg are one of the best examples of consistency. I'm a big fan of consistency in football. They have a coach who used to be a player there. They've never really changed their ways, they've always just made minor adjustments," he added.

Before the draw at Union, Bayern had won all of their 16 games this season across competitions, a record in the top five European leagues.

"You always have to be strong at the end of the season - what you do at the beginning is a bonus," the coach said.

"We want to be even stronger at the end. Even if the performances are good now, it's not an easy task, but we want to be even stronger at the end of the season than we are now."

Bayern top the Bundesliga six points ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig.
