Eugen Polanski has been permanently appointed as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach and has signed a contract until 2028, the Bundesliga club said in a statement.
"From the beginning, he impressed us with his qualities, in terms of both character and ability, and we are convinced that we will be able to continue the positive development we've seen in recent weeks with him as our head coach," head of sport Rouven Schröder said.
Polanski, previously the under-23 coach, took charge of the professional team on an interim basis after Gerardo Seoane was dismissed in September.
Under Polanski's leadership, Gladbach still struggled for a while but have recently showed signs of improvement.
They claimed their first league season earlier this month in matchday nine against St Pauli and build up from that with a victory against Cologne move up to 12th in the standings.
In the German Cup, they've reached the last 16.
"I've never made a secret of the fact of what it means to me to be in this position at my hometown club. Being the head coach of Borussia is something that provides me with a lot of joy and fills me with pride," Polanski said.
The 39-year-old came up through the Gladbach academy, before later going on to make his Bundesliga debut for the club. Following the end of his playing career, Polanski took up a position as a coach at the club in 2018.
