Reports: Wolfsburg coach Simonis set to be fired after poor run

Wolfsburg coach Paul Simonis is set to be sacked after his side lost a sixth Bundesliga game in seven, widespread German media reports said on Saturday.
They had been heading for victory at Werder Bremen on Friday but the hosts scored two late goals to prevail 2-1. It condemned the Wolves to their joint worst start to a top-flight season with six defeats in 10 matches.
Simonis was a surprise choice to take over in the close season after winning the Dutch Cup with Go Ahead Eagles. But the Dutchman failed to receive much backing from his bosses after Friday's loss and both Bild newspaper and Kicker magazine say he is doomed.
"I ask for your understanding. I do not want to say anything about this so soon after the match," sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz told reporters when asked about the future of Simonis. "We are heading back now, and then we will see."
