A women's Euro 2029 tournament in Germany would take place without matches being played in the capital of Berlin.
The German Football federation on Friday named eight cities for its bid for the continental tournament: Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Wolfsburg.
Berlin, Gelsenkirchen and Rostock were dropped as the DFB leadership followed a recommendation made by a panel of experts.
"This gives us a momentum and confidence for the international bidding process. We can also say with regard to the venues: we are ready to organise another major football festival in Germany in 2029," DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said.
Germany is bidding to host the women's Euros for the third time, the previous editions being in 1989 and 2001. Berlin was also not part of those tournaments.
Other bids are from Poland, Portugal and Italy, and a joint one from Denmark and Sweden. The host will be decided by the executive committee of the ruling body UEFA in December.
Berlin was a host city for the men's 2006 World Cup and Euro 2024 events, and both finals were played in Berlin's Olympic Stadium.
