Eintracht Frankfurt ended a run of four games without victory when they came from behind to beat European berth rivals Augsburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Friday.

Ruben Vargas fired Augsburg ahead into the top near right corner in the 13th minute after they won the ball in midfield and he was released by Ermedin Demirovic.

Frankfurt turned matters shortly after the restart. Fares Chaibi slotted home in the 55th after being set up by Junior Dina Ebimbe, and Hugo Ekitike got his first Bundesliga goal in off the left post for 2-1 on the hour.

Omar Marmoush wrapped up matters into the empty net in stoppage time after Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen had come up the field for a corner kick.

"It was an important game against Augsburg who are right behind us. It was three very important points. We had better pace in the second half," Frankfurt's Mario Götze told streaming portal DAZN.

Frankfurt cemented six place after two defeats and draws each in the previous games. They moved six points ahead of Augsburg who failed to get a sixth victory from eight matches, and of Freiburg who host lowly Mainz on Sunday.

Sixth place will be good enough for the 2022 Europa League winners Frankfurt to play in Europe again next season, with even a place in the Champions League possible under certain conditions.

A minute's silence was observed before kick-off for 1974 World Cup winner and all-time Frankfurt top scorer Bernd Hölzenbein, who died on Monday at age 28. Frankfurt said that a memorial servive will be held in their stadium on April 28.

The 30th matchday continues Saturday and Sunday, with freshly crowned champions Bayer Leverkusen aiming to stretch their unbeaten record all season to 45 matches at fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund. Dethroned champions Bayern Munich are at lowly Union Berlin.
