Gladbach and Leipzig draw 0-0 as protests again mark Bundesliga game

Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig drew 0-0 in the Bundesliga on Friday as the home side's winning run ended and the visitors failed to significantly close the gap on leaders Bayern Munich.

Gladbach were going for five straight wins in all competitions after being rejuvenated under new permanent coach Eugen Polanski.

The hosts had the better of the first half without carving out any clear-cut chances.

They thought they had finally broken through straight after the interval via Franck Honorat, but a video review ruled it out for a very tight offside. A Gladbach penalty was also overturned on review.

The introduction of striker Tim Kleindienst, who made his comeback from a long injury break in last weekend's 3-0 win at Heidenheim, came too late for 11th-placed Gladbach to force a winner.

"It is unbelievably cool to be back playing football," he told Sky. "It is nice we can pay back the fans with some good performances."

Second-placed Leipzig, who had lost only two of their previous 11 league matches this term, were without injured Germany forward Assan Ouédraogo.

They lacked bite and now sit five points behind Bayern before the champions welcome hapless St Pauli on Saturday.

"We take the point because we didn't create any top chances," Leipzig captain David Raum, who hit the post, said. "Gladbach are in good form and are flying, it is tough to play here."

Following last weekend’s fan protests across the Bundesliga against government plans to drastically tighten security at matches, Gladbach supporters staged a silent protest until the 12th minute.
