Cologne coach Baumgart extends contract to 2024

Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart has extended his contract by a year to 2024 ahead of the new Bundesliga season, the club said Monday.

Baumgart, 50, led the team to a strong seventh-place finish and a place in the Europa Conference League in his first season last term.

"We were in agreement relatively quickly, that we wanted to continue working together," Baumgart told reporters. "I enjoy being here at Cologne. I've always said that.

"We want to keep playing good football, to keep developing and stabilze ourselves.

"I don't want to talk about where we'll finish this season. The most important thing is to keep FC in the Bundesliga."

Cologne host promoted Schalke on the weekend of August 6, after visiting Jahn Regensburg in the German Cup on July 30.
